Paris: Exposition Universelle de 1900
​     April 15, 1900 to November 12, 1900

Along with the fair, the city also hosted the second Olympic games of the modern era, which were the first to take place outside of Greece. This led to other countries hosting the games.

​​​This World's Fair was the largest ever held in Paris containing about 80,000 different exhibits and several major inventions including X-rays, wireless telegraphy, bicycles, automobiles, turbines, electric lighting, the moving sidewalk and cinema.​

Paul Morand, a contemporary chronicler of the exposition, dubbed electricity "the religion of 1900." The Palace of Electricity was lit up by only electric bulbs.       








​The moving sidewalk was first created for the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago but has become a significant aspect of the Exposition Universelle de 1900.
